Mr. Rogers once said that we should look for the helpers when see scary things happening around us. In September, I came within inches of ending my life, but Mr. Roger’s words stuck with me. The scary things were inside me; they’d been sedated by alcohol for a long time, but I got sober and they got loose. My son’s 16thbirthday was just days away when I was on the verge of oblivion. Sweet 16. All he wanted was an electric guitar. As bad as I wanted out of this life that I considered an epic failure, I couldn’t see doing that to my family. At least right at that moment.
